I installed Vista Beta 2 on Dell Optiplex GX520. Am not able to add the computer to the domain. I get error message 'Logon failure: Unknown user name or wrong password' (My domain server is on Linux.)

Can not add computer to domain
Hello,
Please try the following steps ... this will change the way Windows Vista authenticates with other computers to the same setting that Windows XP uses.
- Click Start - Click Control Panel - Click System and Maintenance - Click Administrative Tools - Double-Click Local Security Policy - In the left pane, click the triangle next to Local Policy - In the left pane, click Security Options - In the right pane near the bottom, double-click "Network security: LAN manager authentication level" - Click the drop-down box, and click "Send LM & NTLM responses" - Click OK

JB, I have an NT 4 DC and could see shares on it but not on a W2k Server or any client shares. Followed your steps and the entire Domain is visible from the Vista box. Thanks Lots, RR

I have a slightly different problem concerning Vista and domain. In order to log on, I had to use the 'Routing and Remote Access' service. Go to control panel - Admin tools - services. Scroll down to 'Routing and Remote Access'. Go to properties and set start-up to automatic and start the service.
You are the man! You left the MVPs in the dust.
I would like to string MS up for setting this type of default.

I've manage to solve all problems with vista and 2k3 domains , except one : Network Speed. I Take about 30-60 seconds to open a server's shared folder. Any ideas ?

Hi,
I've tried that but it doesn't solve the problem. I'm trying to join a Vista Business PC to a 2000 domain, or even map a drive to the server. In Networking, all I see is the router and the other Vista PCs, no XP PCs. If I boot up in safe mode with Networking, I can map a drive using Domain credentials but the mapped drive doesn't connect when I boot up normally.
